St. James' youth journeyed to Appalachia after the 8 a.m. service on Sunday, June 14. Parishioners sent them off in prayer from the parking lot after a commissioning of all missionaries during the service. Along with Rev. Jim and Cynde Bimbi, they traveled 10 hours to St. Tim's Episcopal Outreach Center in Irvine, Kentucky.
At the outreach center work camp, part of Episcopal Appalachian Ministries, missioners performed home repairs and helped with day camps for local children.
Each youth participant was assigned a job for the mission trip, such as scheduling, worship, meal menu and planning, community hospitality, communications. A person from the parish was assigned to each person as a mentor in their responsibility area.
Church fundraisers and generous donations from the congregation supported the trip in its entirety. The youth in charge of hospitality have made goodie bags for the mission team to take to families in the area. Also, the church donated many nice gifts and the youth made baskets to give away to families.
