St. James' enjoys an abundance of opportunities for fellowship that spread well beyond the church and Parish Hall walls to the surrounding Mill Creek community and county. Preparing for these events is a joyful ministry in itself.
The St. James' Bazaar and Turkey Dinner is a tradition in the community that has been held for over 60 years. It is a two-day event which will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and on Saturday, November 5, 2016, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. We shall serve a delicious luncheon on Friday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM — no advance reservations needed. The Turkey Dinner is held on Saturday with seatings at 3:30 PM, 5:00 PM, and 6:30 PM — takeout is also available. Tickets for the Turkey Dinner are sold in advance (cash, check, credit/debit cards) after the church services on Sundays or in the Parish Office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. You can also purchase tickets online at EventBrite (additional service fee per ticket).
The “Bazaar Ladies” meet on Tuesday mornings throughout the year to make the many items sold in the shops. They are a very creative group who look forward each week to spending time together. They believe the fellowship they share is a very important part of the success of the Bazaar.
The Bazaar consists of four rooms of handcrafted items: The Christmas Shop (assorted ornaments, wreaths, arrangements, and a variety of holiday decorations); One Fine Yarn (a large selection of knitted, crocheted, and sewn items); Craftily Yours (gift baskets, cross-stitch, handcrafted jewelry, and much more); ABC Shop (unique items for children, knitted and crocheted afghans, sweaters, hats, books, and stuffed animals).
There is also our famous Bake Shop. It has everything for the sweet tooth — pies, cakes, cookies, breads, preserves, and candy. This is the tastiest corner of the Bazaar.
This year there is a beautiful Green and Burgundy Star Pattern Quilt (48" x 58-1/2"), matching Table Runner (12" x 43-1/2") and a framed Quilt Square for our Quilt Raffle (see photo above). All items are hand quilted.
In addition, the Parish Life Committee's purpose is to connect with each other through the breaking of bread, as in our liturgy, in a variety of social events throughout the church year. This committee seeks to enlarge St. James' circle of friends through the invitation to enjoy new and developing relationships with one another within the parish and in the community-at-large as an extended family enjoying God’s house as our own.
Parish Life activities have included the soup and bread luncheon, Bishop's visit and confirmation reception, kickoff for Sunday School, coffee hour, and the Summer Lemonade in the Circle.
